Journalism with impact
I am a journalist writing high-quality investigations about disability, technology, social issues, the environment, and consumer rights. My work has included investigations into dodgy practices by power companies and banks, the effects of artificial intelligence on Australian video workers, and exploitation of people with disability.
I have over five years of experience working in disability which drives me to tell compassionate and impactful stories about exploitation in Australian society.
I also post pictures of my dog in the hope that people will talk to me about him. His name is Merlin. Please ask me about him.
Don’t just take my word for it
“Brendan Kearns doesn't just have a great eye for a story, he's a slick writer. Huge fan of this dude.”
- Mark Serrels, Editorial and Investigations Editor at CHOICE
“He consistently impressed with his writing and researching skills, his sense of a good news story and his ability to sift through a big privacy policy or a company's terms and conditions. He produced a number of big investigations for us on meaty topics. If anyone is looking to hire a good news hound come the end of the year keep your eye on Brendan!”
- Jarni Blakkarly, Investigative Journalist at CHOICE
My Skills and Experience
Video Production
I am an experienced video producer and editor. I have made everything from documentaries and independent feature films to social media content and online courses. I’ve always got my eyes out for a story that can be told visually and won’t hesitate to bring out a camera.
Compassionate Storytelling
I strive to tell the untold, find what people don’t want me to know, and ask the tough questions. I lead with curiosity and empathy to tell stories that empower the disempowered.
